Systematic Analysis of HEP Collider Data

چکیده

Compelling arguments suggest the presence of new physics at energy scales that will be probed by frontier energy colliders over the next decade. Arguments for each of the many flavors of new physics that have been proposed seem much less compelling. The wide variety of experimental signatures by which new physics may manifest itself suggests the desirability of analyzing all high energy collider data in one systematic framework. These proceedings describe two potentially useful pieces of such a framework: Sleuth enables a model-independent search for new high-pT physics, and Quaero automates tests of particular hypotheses against high energy collider data. A sampling of algorithmic detail is provided in the form of a procedure for choosing an optimal binning when computing likelihood ratios.

Reclustering of HEP Data in Object-Oriented Databases

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), build at CERN, will enter operation in 2005. The experiments at the LHC will generate some 5 PB of data per year, which are stored in an ODBMS. A good object clustering on the disk drives will be critical to achieve a high data throughput required by future analysis scenarios. This paper presents a new reclustering algorithm for HEP data that maximizes the read ...

CERN Services for Long Term Data Preservation

In this paper we describe the services that are offered by CERN [3] for Long Term preservation of High Energy Physics (HEP) data, with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as a key use case. Data preservation is a strategic goal for European High Energy Physics (HEP) [9], as well as for the HEP community worldwide and we position our work in this global content. Specifically, we target the preservat...

WatchMan project - A Python CASE framework for High Energy Physics data analysis in the LHC era

The world’s largest particle collider LHC is taking data at CERN, in Geneva, providing a huge amount of data to be looked at, of the order of several Petabytes per year. Nowadays, Data Analysis in High Energy Physics (HEP) means handling billions of experimental data in custom software frameworks. Physicists have to access and select data interacting with the experiment using dedicated tools; t...

Domain-Oriented Services for High Energy Physics in Polish Computing Centers

Due to large amounts of data collected by High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments, intensive data processing on a large scale is necessary in order to extract final physics results. In the extreme case of the experiments performed on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the dedicated computational grid, Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG), has been developed. The central processing tasks, such as e...

Geant4 hadronic physics status and validation for large HEP detectors

Optimal exploitation of hadronic final states played a key role in successes of all recent collider experiment in HEP, and the ability to use hadronic final states will continue to be one of the decisive issues during the analysis phase of the LHC experiments. Monte Carlo techniques facilitate the use of hadronic final states, and have been developed for many years. We will give a brief overvie...
